The Executive Board consists of the elected officers of the Association, the elected ASHA Advisory Council member, and Chairs of the Association Committees appointed by the president per association bylaws. The Executive Committee of the E-Board is composed of the Officers of the Association and the ASHA Advisory Council member.
The E-Board implements Association policies and makes all decisions not specifically referred to the membership in the Association bylaws. All committees of the Association are responsible to the E-Board through the officer to whom they are assigned. The E-Board is ultimately responsible to the membership for the management of Association moneys and programs.

AKSHA Standing Committee Descriptions:
Advocacy: Promote general knowledge of communication disorders and our professionals through marketing Better Hearing and Speech Month, brochures and other handouts for the public; investigate and influence legislation and rulemaking on behalf of AKSHA; communicate information regarding legislative trends and proposals to the E-Board; facilitate grass-roots lobbying efforts and oversee sub-committees – advisory coalition, newsletter, website, SEAL and STAR.
Advisory Coalition: Manage and coordinate efforts to influence statewide stakeholders related to Personnel Qualifications and Persistent Vacancies and to facilitate action items to address the shortage issues. This includes coordination with Advocacy Chair on PR efforts and efforts to collaborate with other groups on issues, perspectives and barriers regarding Speech-Language and Audiology services and other related disability services.
Newsletter: Coordinate and solicit print advertising, solicit input relating to content – articles, news, etc. and design layout of the newsletter, write and/or edit articles, publish and disseminate newsletter.
State Education Advocacy Leader (SEALS): State Education Advocacy Leaders (SEALs) are appointed by ASHA recognized state speech-language hearing associations to advocate on education issues. These issues may include caseload/workload, salary supplements, and maintenance of personnel standards in school settings. SEALs can be speech-language pathologists or audiologists.
State Advocates for Reimbursement (STAR): ASHA has two member networks that advocate for improved coverage of speech, language, hearing, and swallowing services in private health plans and public health care programs—the State Advocates for Reimbursement (STAR) Network and the Medicare Intermediary and Carrier State (MICS) Network. We invite you to take advantage of the resources these networks provide.
Continuing Education: Investigate need for and availability of continuing education experiences for audiologists and speech-language pathologists in Alaska and forward information to website for listing. Manage the Convention Committee: SLP and AUD co-chairs. Be responsible for the program content of the Association Convention (Fall) and to manage operations for the convention sites, including planning, registration and management.
Membership: Welcome new members, process new and renewing members, maintain the membership list, and publish and distribute the membership directory. Recruitment and retention sub-chair coordinates recruitment and retention efforts to maintain membership in the Association and for the professional fields.
Nominations, Awards and Scholarships: Nominations - Manage the nominations and elections process for the Association Officers. Awards - Manage and coordinate AKSHA and ASHA nominations for awards. Select recipients for the honorary awards of the Association and the Alaska nominees for ASHA's DiCarlo and Kleffner Awards. Scholarship - Manage the association scholarship fund and application process and award scholarships to recipients at the annual convention. Consists of three areas with a rotating Chair who sits of the ASKHA Executive Board. The subchairs report to the designated chair.
Special Interests: Consists of subgroups in speech-language, Audiology, private practice, healthcare and others as needed.
Audiology Chair: Advise on audiological issues and keep E-Board informed on important legislation and events. Membership is made up of audiologists representing a cross-section of work settings.
Speech-Language Chair: Advise on SLP issues relating to all areas but school-based services and keep E-Board informed on important legislation and events. Membership is made up of SLPs representing a cross-section of work settings.
Private Practice Chair: Advise on issues in private practice. Coordinate quarterly meetings. Keep E-Board informed on important legislation and events.
Healthcare Chair: Advise on issues in healthcare settings. Coordinate quarterly meetings. Keep E-Board informed on important legislation and events.
Schools chair: Advise on issues in school settings. Coordinate quarterly meetings. Keep E-Board informed on important legislation and events
